Agnikarma (thermal cautery) and Raktamokshana (therapeutic blood letting ) are considered as effective treatment regimes for the diseases which are not manageable only through medicines. Agnikarma and Raktamokshana have proved to be effective in various conditions of pain, bleeding, infections etc. Acharya Sushruta has mentioned Agnikarma and Raktamokshana as Anushastra (para-surgical procedures) which are quick and result oriented treatments for complicated diseases. Common indications of agnikarma include Vedna (pain) , Stambha (stiffness) and Shotha (inflammation) conditions. Diseases treated with Agnikarma does not reccur. Similarly Raktamokshana , a treatment modality that contributes majorly towards the entire treatment of skin diseases and other raktaja & pittaja vyadhis.
