INTRODUCTION

Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth (RAV), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Ayush, Govt. of India was constituted in 1988 with the objective of reviving classical practical and textual knowledge of Ayurveda through ancient Gurukula method of learning. The targeted learners here are the fresh graduates and post-graduates of Ayurveda still desirous of making themselves more proficient in classical Ayurvedic practices and principles. MRAV (Member of Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth) and CRAV (Certificate of Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth) are two such courses that have been started by RAV to fulfill the objectives of making Ayurvedic students more versed in classical, practical and textual knowledge. So far 1549 and 71 students have completed their CRAV and MRAV respectively. For the session 2022-23, 218 students are being trained under 83 Gurus under the CRAV Course. Students receive practical training in various disciplines of Ayurveda under the guidance of RAV impaneled gurus of Ayurveda throughout the country.

The Citizen’s Charter relates to providing services which ultimately lead to promotion of Ayurveda training and accreditation for achieving the highest possible level of quality in education and practice of Ayurveda system of medicine./p>

VISION OF THE RAV

Vision:

To become a globally renowned Centre of Excellence for the exploration and dissemination of traditional and emerging Ayurvedic clinical practices, facilitating safe and effective treatment for lifestyle and chronic diseases.

MISSION OF THE RAV

To promote transfer of Ancient Traditional Ayurveda knowledge through Guru Shishya Parampara.
To operate accreditation of Ayurveda Courses, which do not fall under the purview of NCISM Act 2020 (Earlier IMCC Act 1970) focusing on Standardization of Courses to bring Quality culture to Ayurveda Education system.
To operate the programme of certification of Ayurveda professionals working nationally and internationally focusing on quality of Ayurveda education.
To established RAV as a formally recognized Institute for carrying out the training and research in traditional and emerging Ayurvedic clinical practice.

SERVICE DELIVERY:

The Continuing Medical Education (CME) scheme is a central sector initiative implemented during the 11th Plan period to provide training to Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy) personnel. The primary objective of the scheme is to upgrade the professional competence, skills, and capacity of Ayush practitioners through ongoing education and training programs.

Administered by the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, the CME scheme is designed to ensure that Ayush professionals stay abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and best practices in their respective fields. By participating in CME activities, practitioners can enhance their knowledge, improve their clinical skills, and maintain high standards of patient care.

1.Capacity Building and Continuing Medical Education (CME) in Ayush

To create, enhance and develop constituent’s capacity at country level in the Ayush health care sector.
To improve health practices through Ayush which are sustainable.
To encourage Ayush professionals to undergo need-based professional orientation and professional skill development in an organized manner.
To update the professional knowledge of teachers and doctors to adopt good teaching practices and good clinical practices respectively.
To encourage the use of Information technology and web-based education programmes for widespread dissemination of Ayush developments and updates.
To train doctors in emerging trends of healthcare and scientific outcomes for keeping up the standards to health care delivery.
To provide information to doctors on professional journals to keep them professionally updated. Ayush-CME Guidelines.
To encourage Ayush paramedics and health workers to undergo periodical training for improving healthcare services in hospitals and dispensaries.
To arrange need-based management training programmes to administrators of Ayush institutions and hospitals on health aspects for delivering quality services.
To update regarding current trends in R & D activities for development of Ayush systems and highlight the areas of research and avenues for collaborative activities.
To apprise regarding new Acts/Notifications and other information addressing regulatory issues in Ayush systems etc.
To Standardize/validate and develop scientific evidence for Ayush’s research and Education;
To make scientific exploration of Ayush system with interdisciplinary approaches; to achieve need based outcome in priority areas.

5.2 Guru Shishya Parampara:

Guru Shishya Parampara is the traditional residential method of education wherein the Shishya lives in the vicinity of his Guru and undertakes the studies in a one to one manner by accompanying the guru in his regular routine clinical work. This system vanished with the disappearance of Gurukula. RAV realized that in Ayurveda, this method of knowledge transfer had been very effective and hence the Vidyapeeth is making efforts to revive this system through its courses.

In institutional form of learning only relevant portions of the Samhitas (classical texts of Ayurveda) are being taught in the form of syllabus. On the contrary, the Guru Shishya Parampara programme of RAV provides the students to study whole text to get adequate knowledge of selected Samhita and its Teeka (commentary) and exposes them traditional skills of the Ayurvedic practices. The Shishyas get sufficient time for interaction with the guru and get a live demonstration upon the patients, herbs or formulations during the course of the study.

5.3 Ayurveda Training Accreditation Board (ATAB):

Ayurveda Training Accreditation Board (ATAB), operating under Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth (RAV), is a board established by the Ministry of Ayush, Govt. of India. Its primary objective is to accredit Ayurveda training courses being conducted both within India and abroad, which does not fall under the purview of National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) Act 2020, formerly known as the Indian Medicine Central Council (IMCC) Act 1970, or any other regulatory bodies.

ATAB serves as a mechanism to ensure the uniformity, quality and standardization of Ayurveda training programs, thereby enhancing the credibility and effectiveness of Ayurvedic education. By accrediting these courses, ATAB aims to uphold the integrity of Ayurvedic teachings, promote excellence in training methodologies, and safeguard the interests of students and practitioners alike.

Through its accreditation process, ATAB evaluates various aspects of Ayurveda training programs, including curriculum content, faculty qualifications, infrastructure, and teaching methodologies through its pre-defined ATAB standards. Accredited Ayurveda courses receive recognition for meeting predefined standards of quality and excellence, thereby assuring students and stakeholders regarding the credibility and authenticity of the training provided.

Overall, the establishment of ATAB represents a significant step towards ensuring the quality and integrity of Ayurveda training programs, both within India and internationally, contributing to the promotion and preservation of Ayurvedic knowledge and practices.
