5.3. NATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR AYURVEDA PG SCHOLARS ON RESEARCH METHODOLOGY, MANUSCRIPT WRITING AND CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

This is a common observation that Ayurveda has a minimal share in the global scientific literature. Despite of large number of PG and PhDs being produced in Ayurveda every year, the number of published research remains minimal. The reason is poorly conducted research in Ayurveda which do not possess a merit of publication. This was also observed that the poor research conduction in Ayurveda is basically an outcome of poor acquaintance of research methods by the Ayurveda PG students. RAV has realized this gap recently and has designed a specific programme for Ayurveda PG scholars focusing upon research methods, manuscript writing and also the guidance upon career opportunities.

This was the two day training programmes involving senior faculties of Ayurveda and allied disciplines who are highly proficient in research. Participants were invited from Ayurveda PG Colleges from whole of the country. It was seen that this training programme was highly appraised and demanded by Ayurveda PG scholars. Approximately, 200 Ayurveda PG students had been trained in this programme.

RAV had conducted these training programmes in following places for Ayurveda PG scholars on Research Methodology, Manuscript Writing and Career Opportunities:

1. New Delhi 22nd to 24th August, 2022 2. Ahmedabad (Gujarat) 22nd to 24th September, 2022 3. Nagpur (Maharashtra) 03rd to 05th November, 2022 4. Bhubaneswar (Odisha) 24th to 26th November, 2022 5. Bengaluru (Karnataka) 15th to 17th December, 2022 6. Trivandrum (Kerala) 19th to 21st January, 2023

5.4. CHARAK AYATANAM (6-days complete residential training programme for Undergraduate and Post Graduate Scholars of Ayurveda)

Samhita are the base of Ayurveda. They are most clinical classical text books of Ayurveda. However, it has been observed that their clinical relevance is not understood and taught the way it should have been. Consequently, they are perceived as theoretical text books. The clinical methods are taught according to understanding to allopathic system of medicine. In the process the Ayurvedic physicians have forgotten that Ayurvedic method of clinical diagnosis is much superior to present method of diagnosis, which is mainly laboratory dependent. The tendency to diagnose diseases as per allopathic system and treat with Ayurvedic formulation may be called as herbal treatment of various disease conditions which is not Ayurveda in real sense. Often, this may lead to wrong diagnosis resulting in wrong treatment of the patient. Therefore, it is important to understand Samhita on bedside and learn to design the treatment as per classical texts.

Charak Samhita being the basic text of Kayachikitsa, the present programme has been designed to provide authentic clinical understanding of Charak Samhita and its relevance in clinical practice. The programme will also give an opportunity to the students to live and experience the lifestyle as described in Charak Samhita and also to experience its positive impact on mind and body. The stalwart Gurus of Ayurveda will provide hands on training to participants based on Charak Samhita. The method of understanding of Charak Samhita and its interpretation in reference to modern lifestyle and habits shall be described to the students. The programme will also provide an opportunity to experience the identification of various medicinal plants explained in Charak Samhita, experience few recipes described by Charak Samhita which have the potential as Nutraceuticals, the Ayurvedic dincharya, preparation of simple formulations mentioned in Charak Samhita, Ekal Dravya Chikitsa etc. in addition to charak based clinical diagnosis.

Two 6-day Samhita training programmes for Undergraduate/Post-graduate students during the financial year 2022-23 “Charakaayatan” was successfully conducted at Bengaluru (Karnataka) and Hoshiarpur (Punjab) for 100 trainees.
