Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth (RAV), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Ayush, Govt. of India was constituted in 1988 with the objective of reviving classical practical and textual knowledge of Ayurveda through ancient Gurukula method of learning. The targeted learners here are the fresh graduates and post-graduates of Ayurveda still desirous of making themselves more proficient in classical Ayurvedic practices and principles. MRAV (Member of Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth) and CRAV (Certificate of Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth) are two such courses that have been started by RAV to fulfill the objectives of making Ayurvedic students more versed in classical, practical and textual knowledge. So far 1985 and 71 students have completed their CRAV and MRAV respectively. For the session 2025-26, 239 students are being trained under 99 Gurus under the CRAV Course. Students receive practical training in various disciplines of Ayurveda under the guidance of RAV impaneled gurus of Ayurveda throughout the country.

To upgrade the skills of Ayurveda teachers in Ayurvedic classical methods of patient examination and subsequent treatment, RAV after perceiving the gap, has started a programme to train Ayurvedic teachers in classical disease diagnostic methods. The focus here is on young faculties belonging to the clinical branches to make them proficient in such methods for their subsequent use in their clinical practice. So far, a total of 19 such diagnostic training programmes have been conducted at various places in the country till the year 2023-24.

During the year 2023-24, Vidyapeeth conducted its 27th Convocation along with regular activity of two days 29th National Seminar. The occasion was also graced by Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Ayush & Ministry of Women & Child Development Dr. Munjpara Mahendrabhai Kalubhai and Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush. The Convocation addressed given by Prof. (Dr.) Tanuja Nesari, Director, All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi. This year, the National Seminar focused on the theme “Ayurvedo Amritanam-Ayurveda for One Health”. The National Seminar was attended by many distinguished eminent speakers of Ayurveda fraternity. The Event was marked by key note addresses on various topics by renowned scholars of Ayurveda, related to recent researches and advancements of Ayurveda. About 25 Research Papers have been presented in the National Seminar along with 07 Poster presentations based on the theme of the programme Ayurvedo Amritanam-Ayurveda for One Health. A Souvenir Containing Full text of all the 25 papers was also released on this occasion.

RAV has been designated as the nodal agency to accredit Ayurveda training courses globally through the Ayurveda Training Accreditation Board (ATAB). Established by the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, ATAB’s primary role is to accredit Ayurveda training programs conducted in India and abroad that fall outside the scope of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) Act, 2020 (formerly the IMCC Act, 1970). ATAB has accredited 99 Ayurveda training courses from 24 renowned institutions across India, along with 14 international courses from 2 countries, till date. Additionally, ATAB endorses qualified Ayurveda professionals practicing overseas, through a structured endorsement scheme. So far, 41 qualified Ayurveda doctors practicing abroad have been formally registered under this initiative, creating an internationally trusted network of professionals. This endorsement fosters global legitimacy, supports integration into healthcare systems, facilitates professional mobility, and strengthens public trust while promoting research, education, and India’s cultural heritage. Overall, this initiative offers a strong platform to harmonize and uplift Ayurveda education standards at the global level.

RAV also functions as a nodal agency to the Central Sector Scheme for Continuing Medical Education (CME). RAV is also evolving many new mechanisms to strengthen its various activities of imparting training in Ayurveda. It is also continuously exploring gaps in existing systems and the ways to fill these gaps. Regular monitoring of RAV activities is also being done through various feedback and midterm appraisal mechanisms. RAV is continuously striving to excel in its field. It is striving to emerge as a dedicated centre of excellence in the area of Ayurveda skill enhancement and capacity building in the country & globally through Education, Training, Research, and Evaluation. RAV is taking many new initiatives in this direction which are supposed to produce tangible results in the future.
